20 for 20 Challenge ELIE is turning 20 years old! 20 days to help build the next 20 years Kick off on World Elephant Day 2026
ELIE & Elephant Valley Project – 20 Year Anniversary!
This World Elephant Day, we’re celebrating something very special and launching our 20 for 20 Challenge!
In 2026, the Elephant Livelihood Initiative Environment (ELIE) celebrates 20 years of working alongside elephants, indigenous communities and the forests of Mondulkiri, Cambodia. 20 years ago, ELIE began with a vision for a different future, one where elephants could live with dignity, local indigenous Bunong communities could benefit from protecting their forests and elephants, while the development of the ecotourism program could create real opportunities for people.
Twenty years later, we are still here. Still smiling, most days. Still awestruck when we see the elephants wandering freely through the forest. Still a family. We have celebrated incredible successes and along the road we have faced enormous challenges. We have adapted through changing tourism, financial uncertainty, the pandemic and many difficult moments. Through it all, our commitment to elephants, people and forests has remained.
Building on the last 20 years, we want ELIE and the Elephant Valley Project to be here for another 20 years.
So, this World Elephant Day, we are launching our 20 FOR 20 Challenge.
WHAT IS 20 FOR 20?
For 20 days, we’re asking people around the world to do something positive for elephants, people or our planet.
It can be something small.
It can be something challenging.
It can be something generous.
The choice is yours.
Give something up.
Challenge yourself.
Raise money.
Make a donation.
Do something for nature.
Whatever you choose, do it for 20 days and become part of our 20th anniversary celebration.
What’s your 20?
WHY YOUR SUPPORT MATTERS
Our 20th anniversary is a celebration, but it also comes at an important time.
Like many conservation organisations that depend partly on tourism, ELIE and the Elephant Valley Project continue to face significant financial pressures.
Tourism in Cambodia remains unpredictable, while the cost of fuel, food and essential operations continues to rise.
We are working hard to build a more sustainable future for ELIE — one that doesn’t depend entirely on tourism income.
Your support helps us bridge these difficult periods and continue the work that has made the last 20 years possible.
It helps us care for our elephants.
It helps us employ and support local Indigenous staff.
It helps us protect 1,500 hectares of community forest.
And it helps us continue building a future where conservation creates lasting benefits for both people and wildlife.
